Lebhaca creates a vibey sound
SINCE his introduction to the music scene last year maskandi singer Ichwane Lebhaca has been extending boundaries and uniting seemingly diverse genres.
Born Zelule Mtshali in Ixopo, KwaZulu-Natal, he has successfully combined Xhosa and Zulu maskandi music to create the very vibey sound of isibhaca.
Mtshali, who has just dropped his second album, Omama Bengane, has struggled for years to launch his music career.
His break came when he won the Nedbank Music Competition in 2008 and got a recording contract with Gallo.
His latest album comes after his debut album, which was released two years ago and did well.
"I am pleased that my debut received a positive response," he says.
"That has really encourage me to work even harder on my new offering."
With Omama Bengane Mtshali believes he has found a winning formula. A quick listen to his album suggests that he knows what he is doing and his sound has matured.
